Used Gas Turbines Inspection Discipline — Desk Diligence Before Travel

How used gas turbines move from hub shortlist to desk diligence and the fixed USD 20,000 inspection fee — without yard locations or CapEx fiction.

Used Gas Turbines Inspection — Desk First, Then Physical

Inspection discipline is how cheap used gas turbines stay cheap. Sticker MW without documentation and physical verification usually destroys TCO. This page covers the buyer path from hub shortlist to desk diligence to the fixed USP&E inspection participation fee — without publishing yard locations or inventing remaining-life percentages.

Desk Diligence Checklist (Before Travel)

  • Title and ownership clarity — exclusivity themes vs broker chains; kill packages that cannot open a paper path.
  • Hours or surplus status honesty — operating history themes vs cancelled-project / new-surplus language.
  • Major maintenance themes — hot-section and major inspection interval language as documented, not invented.
  • Controls generation honesty — obsolete controllers are residual risk, not a paint problem.
  • Frequency, fuel, and approximate MW class — mismatch kills the package before freight.
  • Inspection access existence — if access cannot be organised under commercial gates, do not fantasise.
  • EPC risk note — foundations, fuel quality, inlet/exhaust, and protection complexity named qualitatively.

Site receiving after freight is a different gate — prior wave article used genset site receiving inspection covers pad punch lists; this K2 page focuses on pre-purchase used GT inspection discipline.

Fixed Inspection Participation Fee Policy

Inspections are welcomed. USP&E charges a USD 20,000 inspection participation fee, payable in advance. If the asset is not as represented, the fee is refunded in full. If the buyer proceeds, 50 percent is credited against the purchase. Physical yard locations remain undisclosed until NDA, passport copies, term sheet, and proof of funds — never published on Unique pages.

Indicative ex-works pricing on the live hub confirms after NDA and project qualification. Never publish discounts, negotiated prices, or landed prices on Unique marketing pages.

What Inspectors Typically Emphasise on Used GT Packages

Qualitative themes only — not Unique-invented OEM remaining-life percentages:

  • Visual and preservation condition of package and auxiliaries
  • Hot-section and major inspection history coherence with claimed hours
  • Inlet filtration and exhaust path readiness for the intended site
  • Fuel system cleanliness and gas quality assumptions
  • Generator, switchgear, and protection interface readiness
  • Serial and nameplate discipline versus paperwork

Frame industrial vs aeroderivative packages differ in start profile and BOP intensity — compare qualitatively without heat-rate tables. Brand-agnostic OEM families discussed on live inventory themes include GE, Siemens, Solar and related lines — selection remains engineering-led.

From Pass/Fail to Station Wrap

A passed inspection is not yet a power station. Extreme Ownership means the same accountability envelope covers foundations, BOP, commissioning, and operators. See EPC & O&M, live power plant EPC/EPCM, and operations and maintenance. Credentials-focused after-install narrative: EPC/O&M after used GT install.

If the package fails representation, take the full fee refund and return to the hub — do not “negotiate into junk.” Parallel diesel bridge shortlists stay on diesel generators.

Compliance and Anti-Fraud During Inspection

USP&E is a US-headquartered, FCPA and OFAC compliant company. We do not supply equipment, spares or services to Iran, Russia or any sanctioned destination, directly or through third countries. Refuse deposit theatre before inspection pathways exist. No invented CapEx, lump-sum turnkey prices, or committed COD guarantees appear here.

Related: avoiding broker pitfalls · documenting hours and maintenance history (prior waves — linked, not duplicated).

Used → New Bridge After Inspection

Inspection may confirm a used package for near-term COD while the master plan still needs later new or modular blocks. Keep FX-45 language constrained: modular, 45 MW-class, 50/60 Hz, slots from 2028 only. Internal FX-45. Campus framing: data centres.

Evidence Pack Buyers Should Demand

Before travel, insist on a coherent evidence pack: serial and nameplate photos, hours or surplus status statements, major maintenance summaries, control-system generation notes, and any known open defects. Conflicts between hours and hot-section language are kill criteria, not negotiation theatre. Hours documentation themes from prior expand remain useful: documenting hours and maintenance history.

After a pass, photograph serials again at receiving so custody paper matches the inspected machine — prior wave site receiving inspection covers pad gates. Refurbishment paint without hot-section evidence is residual risk: refurbishment scopes before resale.

Multi-Unit Packages Raise Inspection Intensity

Multi-unit used GT packages share BOP and logistics RACI. Inspect serial discipline across every machine; do not accept “fleet average hours” as a substitute for unit-level truth. Negotiating package themes (prior wave): negotiating multi-unit surplus packages. Shipping and Incoterms honesty: shipping used gensets internationally.

Warranty and residual risk stay qualitative — warranty residual risk — never invent CapEx offsets for residual categories.
