Cheap Used Generators · Powered by USP&E
Used GT Borescope Evidence Pack
You are close to buying a used gas turbine. The seller says the hot section is in good shape, and the hours look fine, but the borescope images are low resolution, undated and only cover a few stages.
If you buy without a proper borescope record, you inherit risk you cannot see. Cracked liners, burnt nozzles or coating loss can force a costly hot-section repair soon after the unit lands, leaving your project stranded and your budget and lender under pressure.
USP&E as Your Guide Through Borescope Evidence
We have reviewed many inspection files, and we know a good borescope record tells you more than any listing. Since 2002 USP&E has built 150+ power stations, supplied about 25 000 MW and guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries. Our 400+ engineers and project managers are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified and work under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Read Borescope Images as a Risk Clock
A complete borescope inspection covers compressor blades, combustion liners, transition pieces, fuel nozzles, turbine nozzles and buckets, with each image labelled by stage, position and date. Look for cracks, burning, coating loss, tip rubs, foreign object damage and erosion. Each finding should be compared with the manufacturer’s limits and with the hours and starts the seller claims.
Ask for raw images and video, not just a summary report, and insist that the inspector’s name, equipment and access ports are recorded. If the inspection is old or incomplete, a fresh borescope before purchase is cheap insurance. Your engineers and lenders should read the same evidence and reach the same conclusion. Where findings sit close to limits, price the likely repair into your offer instead of hoping the next inspection is kinder.
Apply the Same Discipline to a Remanufactured GE Frame 6B
A remanufactured GE Frame 6B still needs a transparent borescope file showing condition after the reman work, a clear reman scope statement and a controls condition report. Preservation history matters as much as the reman stamp, because poor storage can bring back corrosion that the shop removed.
Natural gas engines/stations may cover auxiliary roles while the main turbine evidence is verified. Used/new gas turbines can then be compared fairly on documented hot-section condition, remaining life and the repair work each one is likely to need in its first years under your ownership. Ask for any previous repair reports too, because a blade that was blended or a liner that was weld-repaired changes how much margin remains.
Keep Room for AI Gas Turbines and FX-45 Growth
If your used turbine is a first step toward a larger site, keep civil and electrical interfaces open for future AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute. A bargain machine that blocks your growth path costs more in the end, so plan gas, cooling and switchyard space for the final site.
The planning reference for that later capacity is modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, for 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028. Where a campus follows, the same team can move from equipment diligence into hyperscale EPC/O&M, so the inspection records you gathered keep their value in operations.
USP&E Offices Serving Used Generator Buyers
Southern Africa is home base. USP&E’s Executive HQ in Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) owns engineering, procurement and project controls for your used gas turbine purchase, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) backs it with design and commissioning support.
Equipment and finance for preserved used gas turbines and gensets draw on the wider network: London (162-168 Regent Street) supports structuring and finance, Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) link you to US supply and engineering, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) covers China sourcing and manufacturing.
For a used turbine buyer, that means a borescope inspection can be witnessed where the unit sits, and preservation, crating and shipping are tracked by one team until the machine reaches your site. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
Proof from Recent Used Generator Projects
Inspection evidence only matters if the machine performs afterwards. These projects show USP&E refurbishing, packaging and supplying turbines and gensets that delivered.
- USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
- Zondereinde platinum mine, South Africa: USP&E supplied, packaged and serviced six zero-hour surplus Wabtec GE16V250 gensets, giving the mine 25 MW of base-load power through Eskom load shedding. Read the case study.
- NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
HowTo: Build the equipment and delivery path
Your 3-step plan: 1. Send the listing, records and borescope files under NDA. 2. Receive a hot-section risk review and inspection scope. 3. Ship, install and commission with O&M accountability.
- Define duty, frequency, fuel plan, and which hot-section risks dominate remaining life for candidate gas turbine generators.
- Compare verified used/new gas turbines, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B, and natural gas engines/stations against that risk matrix.
- Request borescope images, hours, starts, trip logs, inspection findings, controls status, and logistics dimensions via the central inventory hub.
- Reserve growth interfaces for modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, 50/60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028.
- Write inspection exclusions, preservation plans, and O&M ownership into one Extreme Ownership matrix.
- Complete funding, shipping, insurance, and commissioning rehearsals before final selection.

FAQ: Used GT Borescope Evidence Pack
Why is a borescope inspection essential for your used turbine?
USP&E insists on borescope evidence because it shows the hot section directly: cracks, burning, coating loss and erosion that hours and photographs cannot reveal. Without it, your purchase price may hide a hot-section repair that arrives soon after your turbine is installed.
What should a borescope report include?
USP&E expects a borescope report to include labelled images by stage and position, inspection date, inspector details, access ports used, findings compared with manufacturer limits and recommendations. Raw images and video should accompany the summary, so your engineers can verify every conclusion themselves.
Where are USP&E offices that support your used equipment purchase?
USP&E supports used equipment purchases from its Executive HQ in Johannesburg and its Cape Town office, which own engineering and project controls. London supports finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville link you to US supply and engineering, and Wuxi covers China sourcing and manufacturing.
Has USP&E delivered refurbished turbines and surplus equipment before?
USP&E has delivered refurbished and surplus equipment widely. USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers, packaged six surplus gensets for Zondereinde platinum mine and supplied three zero-hour SGT-400 turbines to NEOM.
How do you avoid broker pitfalls when buying used turbines?
USP&E is not a broker, which is the main protection. As a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, USP&E reviews borescope evidence, inspects equipment, plans logistics and commissions the unit, so you are not relying on a reseller who disappears once the sale closes.
How fast can USP&E respond to your borescope review?
USP&E can begin as soon as you share the listing, serial numbers, borescope files and maintenance records. Engineers flag missing or weak evidence first, then plan a fresh inspection if needed, and timing depends on site access, seller cooperation and inspector availability.
Does a remanufactured GE Frame 6B still need a borescope?
USP&E expects a remanufactured GE Frame 6B to come with a post-reman borescope record, reman scope and preservation history. The reman work adds value, but storage and transport can introduce corrosion or damage, so a recent inspection protects your investment before final payment.
Do natural gas engines appear in used turbine programmes?
USP&E often includes natural gas engines/stations alongside used turbines. Engines can cover auxiliaries, black-start or early load while your turbine is inspected, shipped and commissioned, and they provide backup when your turbine is down for its first inspection under your ownership.
