Used GT Fuel System Evidence

Used GT Fuel System Evidence

A used gas turbine can look clean on the outside and still hide a tired fuel system. Worn or blocked fuel nozzles, sticking gas control valves, a purge system that was bypassed and corroded skid piping all show up later as failed starts, uneven combustion and hot-section damage.

If you buy without fuel system evidence, you may inherit a repair bill and a delay you never priced. You also risk installing a unit that will not start reliably when your site needs it.

USP&E Helps You Check Used GT Fuel System Evidence

We know a cheap used turbine is only cheap if it runs when you need it. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers review fuel system records, inspect skids and price repairs on used units before you commit money. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.

Good sellers have this evidence and share it. When a seller cannot show fuel system records, treat that as a finding in itself and price the risk before you sign.

Ask What the Unit Has Burned

Start with fuel history. Ask which fuels the unit burned, for how long, and whether there were problems with liquids, sulphur, particulates or water in the fuel. A unit that ran on poor fuel will have a different wear pattern from one that ran on clean pipeline gas.

Ask how the fuel was treated before it reached the turbine, because you will need the same answer for your own site. Missing filters, coalescers or heaters on the old site can explain fouled nozzles and damaged valves.

If the unit burned liquid fuel or ran dual fuel, ask for the liquid system records as well. Liquid fuel pumps, flow dividers and check valves can be a large part of the repair bill.

Demand Nozzle, Valve and Purge Records

Fuel nozzles should have inspection, flow test or replacement records tied to running hours. Ask when they were last pulled and what the inspector found, and keep the answer in your file. Uneven exhaust temperature spreads in the trend data often point to nozzle problems.

Check test and calibration records for the gas control valve, stop valve and any vent valves. Ask whether the purge system was working and tested, and whether any protection was bypassed in the last operating years.

Compare the evidence on every option. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B or other used/new gas turbines should be judged on the same records, so you are comparing real condition and not just price.

Inspect the Skid and Price the Gaps

Inspect the fuel skid, piping and supports in person or through an inspector you trust. Look for corrosion, leaks, missing instruments and parts robbed for other units. Photos help, but a hands-on check is better.

Price every gap before you sign: nozzle refurbishment, valve overhaul, new instruments and any purge or controls work. Add the cost of cover if repairs delay delivery, such as natural gas engines/stations on short-term duty.

Fuel system evidence matters more as the duty gets harder. Buyers lining up gas turbine generators for hyperscale EPC/O&M work, or comparing used units with AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute, face strict start reliability targets. The New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA answers a different need, but the same evidence habit protects every purchase.

What USP&E Has Delivered for Used Generator Buyers

You want proof that USP&E has inspected, refurbished and delivered used gas turbines with full evidence. These projects show that record.

  • USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers.
  • NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
  • MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.

HowTo: Check Used GT Fuel System Evidence

Your 3-step plan: 1. Share the seller’s data pack, trend data and photos under NDA. 2. Receive a fuel system evidence review with repair pricing. 3. Buy with repairs and cover priced, then run under accountable O&M.

  1. Ask for the fuel types the unit has burned and any fuel quality problems on record.
  2. Request fuel nozzle inspection, flow test or replacement records.
  3. Check gas control valve, stop valve and purge system test records and calibration dates.
  4. Inspect the fuel skid, piping and supports for corrosion, leaks and missing parts.
  5. Compare the unit with a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or other used/new gas turbines on the same evidence.
  6. Price fuel system repairs and cover before you sign.

FAQ: Used GT Fuel System Evidence

Why does fuel system evidence matter on a used turbine?

USP&E treats the fuel system as a leading cause of start failures and uneven combustion on used units. Worn nozzles and sticking valves also damage the hot section over time. Your evidence review tells you whether the price reflects the real condition of these parts.

What fuel records should a seller provide?

USP&E asks for the fuels burned, fuel treatment on the old site, nozzle inspection or replacement records, valve test and calibration records and purge system tests. You should also see exhaust temperature spread trends, which often reveal nozzle problems before they become damage.

What if the seller has no fuel system records?

USP&E treats missing records as a finding. You price the risk by assuming nozzle refurbishment, valve overhaul and instrument replacement, then decide whether the unit still makes sense. A seller who will not allow inspection is telling you something important.

Is a dual-fuel used turbine harder to check?

USP&E finds dual-fuel units need more evidence because the liquid system adds pumps, flow dividers and check valves. Your review should cover both fuel paths. Liquid system repairs can be a large share of the total if the unit sat unused for long.

Where are USP&E’s offices that support used GT reviews?

USP&E reviews used units from Johannesburg and Cape Town for African buyers, while Colorado Springs and Knoxville check equipment in US yards. London handles contracts and finance, and Wuxi supports China manufacturing and parts. Each review sits in one shared project file.

Has USP&E delivered used gas turbine projects before?

USP&E has refurbished seven GE Frame 6B gas turbines to zero hours in-house for major US hyperscale data-centre developers. Public case studies also cover NEOM, where USP&E supplied zero-hour gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface. You can read each case study and judge the evidence.

Is USP&E a broker for used turbines?

USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that inspects, refurbishes, installs and operates turbines with its own engineers, so the people who review your fuel system evidence stay accountable after the unit starts on your site.

How fast can USP&E respond on a fuel system review?

USP&E can start reviewing the seller’s data pack, trend data and photos as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag missing records and visible damage first, then arrange inspection, with timing set by the unit’s location and the seller’s access rules.
